Related AIA Position: Architect Level I

Related AIA Position Description: Has and understanding of all conventional aspects of architecture. With direction performs a variety of assignments requiring skills in all conventional aspects of architectural designs for projects of moderate size and complexity. With direction performs analyses of design, planning and occupancy studies, and limited design layouts. With direction prepares project specifications, compiling and analyzing relevant data. With direction writes reports and specifications. With direction reviews completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations.

  Compensation Alignment: Baseline compensation for this position will be aligned to the salaries listed for the Architect Level I position defined by the AIA Compensation Report for the California Region.  Baseline salary ranges will be updated in alignment with the publication of this report.  Final compensation for each employee will be determined based on skillset alignment with the position as described below as determined by the Studio Directors and Principal Architects.  This is an exempt position as defined by the state of California.

Supervision Hierarchy: Project Managers or Project Architects – Studio Director – Principal Architect

Position Responsibilities:

  • Works with PM’s and PA’s to direct production team, assign tasks, and allocate resources.
  • Facilitates communication among the staff regarding project status, objectives, and performance.
  • Lead the production team to create, assemble and issue client deliverables utilizing Revit, Auto CAD, Sketchup or other medium
  • Works with PM’s and PA’s to Identify project issues under general supervision and works with PM’s and PA’s to develop and execute solutions. 
  • Works to train and develop junior staff.
  • Works with PM’s and PA’s to manage the Construction Administration process to by performing regular site visits, coordinating the submission of documents to reviewing agencies and support construction administration (RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, etc.)
  • Prepare, review, and check all construction documents for accuracy; coordinate documents with internal team members and external consultants.
  • Lead field survey teams as needed for development and documentation of as-built conditions
  • Maintain, organize, and archive project files during and at the close of a project.
  • Demonstrate and utilize working knowledge of lighting, HVAC, structural, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical design as well as of relevant codes, including CBC and ADA
  • Maintain an awareness of a project’s scope, schedule and budget
  • Assist with other duties as necessary (i.e. site visits, as-builts, code research, etc.)
  • General knowledge of Architectural detailing and construction standards

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Three Years of Professional Experience
  • Licensure by the California Architects Board required.
  • Degree from a NAAB-Accredited Architecture Programs is preferred but not required.
  • General knowledge of the California Building Code, DSA and CDE processes and Construction Processes
  • Ability to multitask and manage several projects at a time.
  • Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite & Outlook.
  • Organized with a strong attention to detail and follow through.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on reading and writing for creating documentation and reports.
  • Interpersonal skills to work within a team, taking direction from Project Managers and Engineers
